Tyrion Lannister's wildfire chain trap destroyed much of the fleet, and a last-minute relief force led by Tywin Lannister and Mace Tyrell shattered Stannis's army. The battle saved Joffrey's crown and cemented the Lannister-Tyrell alliance.

Mance Rayder's wildling army attacked the Wall from the north while a raiding party scaled it from the south. Jon Snow led the defense after most senior rangers fell, holding the Wall long enough for Stannis Baratheon's unexpected cavalry charge to shatter the wildling host.
