The character in context

Mace, Lord of Highgarden, uses the Reach’s forces, supplies and dynastic marriages to pursue royal influence. He backs Renly, then joins the Lannisters, bringing Margaery marriages to Joffrey and later Tommen. Family standing shapes his behavior in trials and contests over office. As Hand, he faces his daughter’s trial before the Faith alongside a fresh invasion. Commanding soldiers does not give him an uncomplicated way to dismiss the accusations.
