The character in context

Walder controls a vital crossing at the Twins and advances his house through a vast network of marriages and descendants. When Robb marches south, Walder exchanges passage for two marriages and offices. After Robb marries Jeyne, he outwardly accepts an apology and Edmure's replacement wedding. During the feast, the Freys murder Stark and Tully guests under guest right while Walder taunts Catelyn. He remains alive at the Twins through the five novels, although revenge and succession tensions close around his family; Arya does not kill him in the books.
