The character in context

Tywin, Lord of Casterly Rock, is the father of Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion. After the Blackwater he resumes power as Hand, using marriages, lands and punishments to shape his family’s future. His dealings with the Freys and Boltons produce the Red Wedding but do not resolve conflicts within his own house. He compels Tyrion to marry Sansa and sits in judgment after Joffrey’s death. Escaping imprisonment, Tyrion kills him with a crossbow in the Tower of the Hand.
