A child betrothal becomes a gameboard

The character in context

Trystane is the youngest son of Prince Doran and Mellario, and Myrcella's betrothed in Dorne. The children spend time together at the Water Gardens and play cyvasse, while their match serves both Tyrion's attempt at alliance and Arianne's plan to crown Myrcella. After Myrcella is wounded, Doran keeps Trystane in Dorne and says Cersei's party intends to murder him on the road under cover of a bandit attack; that intelligence reaches the reader through Doran's account. Trystane remains alive at the end of the fifth novel, so the television outcome does not apply.
