The character in context

Selyse, Stannis's wife and Shireen's mother, eagerly adopts Melisandre's faith on Dragonstone. After Stannis claims the crown, she joins religious zeal to her position as queen, supports burning the old gods and favors using Edric's blood for victory. In the north she brings Shireen and the queen's men to Castle Black, treating wildling alliances and Night's Watch arrangements with contempt and interference. She remains at the Wall at the end of the fifth novel; the adaptation's suicide is not her published fate.
