The character in context

Sandor, called the Hound, was burned by his brother Gregor as a child and fears fire while scorning knightly hypocrisy. He protects Joffrey and joins the Kingsguard, then abandons his post amid the flames of the Blackwater. Later he travels through the riverlands with Arya, hoping to ransom her. Wounded, he is left behind by her. The Elder Brother on the Quiet Isle recounts the Hound’s death, but Sandor’s subsequent fate is not explicitly confirmed; testimony should not be mistaken for certainty.
