The character in context

Rodrik is Winterfell’s master-at-arms and a longstanding Stark retainer. He escorts Catelyn south to investigate the dagger used against Bran, then returns as castellan and manages northern affairs with Luwin. Seeking to recover Winterfell from Theon, he besieges the castle but dies when Ramsay attacks under the appearance of bringing aid. The novels do not have Theon execute him. His loyalty cannot protect him from misreading an apparent ally.
