The character in context

Robert takes the Iron Throne after the rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty and marries Cersei. Following Jon Arryn’s death he asks his old friend Eddard to serve as Hand, but they clash over matters including the treatment of the exiled Daenerys. Mortally wounded by a boar while hunting, Robert entrusts the regency to Ned. Ned has discovered the truth about Cersei’s children but does not tell him. Robert’s death brings the concealed succession dispute into the open.
