The character in context

Melisandre is a red priestess from Asshai who serves R’hllor and believes Stannis to be the promised saviour. At Dragonstone and Storm’s End she displays power over fire and shadows; at the Wall she continues searching for signs. Her viewpoint chapter distinguishes magic from preparation and interpretation. Seeing an image in the flames does not ensure she identifies its meaning correctly. Her readings of people and events remain fallible, even as she warns Jon of danger.
