The character in context

Luwin serves Winterfell as healer, teacher and counselor. His learning shapes Bran’s ideas about history and lordship but clashes with the knowledge offered by Osha and the Reeds. When the castle changes hands he still invokes a maester’s duty in counseling Theon to surrender. Mortally wounded, he urges that Bran and Rickon be separated for safety. The limits of his explanations coexist with a commitment to care that lasts to his death.
