The character in context

Jon once served Aerys as Hand, then lived in exile as Griff while raising a boy presented as Rhaegar’s son Aegon. Rescuing Tyrion on the Rhoyne leaves him with greyscale, which he conceals. Rather than wait for Daenerys, he crosses to Westeros with the Golden Company and recovers Griffin’s Roost. Memory of Rhaegar and past failure sharpen his urgency, without independently proving the young claimant’s ancestry.
