The character in context

Illyrio, a wealthy magister of Pentos, shelters Viserys and Daenerys, arranges the marriage to Drogo and gives dragon eggs. His secret collaboration with Varys connects exiles, trade and plans for the throne. He later receives Tyrion and sends him toward Griff’s company. His explanations mix profit with obligations of affection without fully disclosing his motives. Support for rival claimants does not establish a blood relationship between him and Young Griff.
