The character in context

Howland Reed is lord of Greywater Watch and father to Meera and Jojen. In Meera's tale, a young crannogman is abused at Harrenhal and aided by the Stark siblings; the text strongly points to Howland while preserving the episode as a story. He and Eddard survive the fight at the tower of joy, after which Howland returns to the elusive Greywater Watch. He has not appeared directly in the five novels and has given no first-hand account of the Knight of the Laughing Tree, Lyanna's death or Eddard's return with Jon.
