The character in context

Garlan, Mace’s second son, is a skilled fighter less drawn to tourney fame than Loras. At the Blackwater he wears Renly’s armor to unsettle the enemy. At court he shows consideration for Sansa, acknowledges Tyrion’s defense of the city and objects to Joffrey’s humiliation of him. His grant of Brightwater Keep still requires possession to be secured, while ironborn attacks redirect the Reach’s military priorities.
