The character in context

Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, Eddard accepts Robert Baratheon’s offer to serve as Hand. His investigation of Jon Arryn’s death leads to the parentage of Cersei’s children. After Robert dies, his attempt to prevent Joffrey’s succession fails when the city watch turns against him. He confesses to treason to protect his daughters, but Joffrey orders his execution.
