The character in context

Bronn begins as a sellsword recruited by Catelyn to escort Tyrion, then decides that a new employer offers better prospects. At the Eyrie he champions Tyrion in trial by combat, defeating Vardis Egen through patience and mobility. He later recruits sellswords, operates the Blackwater chain and is knighted, but refuses to face the Mountain when loyalty no longer pays. Through marriage and violence he takes control of Stokeworth, showing how war can reward calculation rather than allegiance.
