The character in context

Bran, a son of Eddard and Catelyn, loses the use of his legs after Jaime pushes him from a tower to conceal his secret with Cersei. Dreams of a three-eyed crow and his bond with Summer open another way of experiencing the world. After Winterfell falls, his companions help him travel north to a cave beyond the Wall, where he learns to see the past through weirwoods. In A Dance with Dragons he remains a pupil; his eventual role is unresolved.
