Criston Cole was a Lord Commander of the Kingsguard remembered as the Kingmaker. The five main novels preserve two revealing views: Arianne fears his precedent for a white cloak intervening in succession, while Jaime reads his arms in the White Book and places him among knights who were both best and worst.
