Alicent Hightower was Otto's daughter, the second queen of Viserys I, and the mother of Aegon II. The five main novels give no named chapter a direct account of her personality, motives, or private relationship with Rhaenyra; they preserve only the distant outline of succession and civil war. Reducing the Dance to a personal feud between two women would therefore exceed the evidence used here.
